Welcome to the Eastern University (EU), and the opportunity of writing this message for the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of EU is, indeed, a matter of great pleasure and satisfaction to me. The IQAC at EU is committed to create an enabling environment and quality culture in the campus. The founders of the EU believe that the noble purpose of nation building could be best served by creating skilled and knowledgeable human resources. Ever since its inception in 2003 the EU apical management has stressed imparting quality education at an affordable cost. IQAC of EU started it journey in 2015 under HEQEP project (2015-18); and then EU-IQAC has been operating with the goal of ensuring quality education for the students of this university that will bring positive change in their lives in terms of knowledge, skill and attitude. IQAC is moving towards its goal with the support from the university management, teachers, students, officials, alumni and the society at large. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to EU, UGC, and BAC for their constant guidance as well as supports in running IQAC at EU.

Quality assurance is a continuous process, and myself as chair of the Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) surely will continue to identify the scope of further improvement with the feedback from all QAC members and other stakeholders, and act accordingly to build a better future of our students as well as contribute to the socio-economic development of Bangladesh. I expect the heartiest cooperation of all the stakeholders of EU to achieve the strategic objectives and goals of IQAC for enhancing the quality in every aspects, as we work for positive changes in the interest of EU and Bangladesh. With this vision to be one of the leading universities in South Asia in its chosen fields of higher education, the university never considered quantity over quality. The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) attained the much prestigious accreditation from the Board of Accreditation of IEB for Technical and Engineering Education (BAETE), a distinction very few universities so far have achieved. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is also in the process of getting such accreditation from the BAETE. All other programs are getting ready to apply for the BAC accreditation.

Our graduates are provided extensive support for career placement, internships, and pursuit of higher studies in different world-renowned universities through the Career Services and International Office. For the development of mental and intellectual perspicacity of the students, 18 different clubs and forums offer different kinds of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities through which our students are emerging as leaders who will help shape tomorrow’s Bangladesh and create a positive change. Generations of students, staff and alumni have built our reputation, and I am confident that EU people of today and tomorrow will add to this reputation in the future. The faculty members of EU are committed to putting their best efforts and experiences gained through years of teaching and research from world-renowned institutions. IQAC also has been offering students focus various events, like Course-wise seminars, Students’ thoughts on national budget, Debate-completion, Essay competition, and Club-wise seminars, etc.

Welcome to the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Eastern University (EU), where excellence is nurtured, pursued and celebrated as we work for positive changes in the interest of a better Bangladesh. The IQAC in EU was established in 2015 in collaboration with the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh. We feel proud that having financial limitations as a small university, the quality in higher education always has been a top priority to the EU authority, as gave immediate green signal to the UGC for an enabling framework under the collaborative HEQEP project (2015-18: UGC-EU 50:50 share) to provide quality education. It is mentionable here that all of our five departments had received “A” grade in HEQEP project evaluation by the external team members. Since then the EU-IQAC of having financial limitations, as suddenly shifted to the permanent campus in Ashulia education zone has been working to establish an everlasting quality culture in education throughout the programs offered by various departments.

According to the UGC, the objectives of IQAC are: i) To develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic action to improve the academic and administrative performance of the universities and ii) To undertake measures for quality enhancement and excellence in teaching-learning through internationalization as well as to institutionalize the best practices of QA activities. As a part of the Quality Assurance at EU, IQAC closely works with existing all departments and keeps liaison with the QAC, Academic Council and Syndicate. In EU, quality of education provided by the respective schools, departments and programs has been in regular practices under a continuous quality improvement (CQI) process. Curricula of all of the programs are being improved in light of Outcome Based Education (OBE).

Quality of education is ensured through (i) designing an appropriate curriculum, (ii) implementation with effective teaching-learning and (iii) proper evaluation of students. IQAC of EU is also organizing and facilitating series of training programs for academic staff. As director of IQAC, I appreciate the previous accomplishments and ongoing activities of the various programs under 7 departments, and at the same time urge for more number of QA support activities in future from the EU. IQAC is dedicated to monitor, evaluate and make report of the education quality at EU. It provides supports to the program offering entities and other administrative offices for improving quality of education as part of CQI. IQAC helps departments to design and implement OBE curriculum and students’ evaluation through OBE assessment. Since inception, the IQAC also has been offering students-focus various events, like Students’ thoughts on national budget, Debate-completion, Essay competition, Course-wise seminars, and Club-wise seminars, etc.

We are happy to regularly update this page with sufficient information, as we continuously organize and attend various events at EU and out of campus, e.g. during 2025-26 financial years, we have organized numerous internal and external events. IQAC ensures compliance with UGC and BAC guidelines as well as started to prepare documentations and reports on various programs for quality audits towards to accreditation by national and international quality assurance bodies.

Here at IQAC under the umbrella of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of University Grant Commission (UGU), we thrive to create a quality environment in every aspect of the University. As quality has no boundaries, it’s an ongoing process and when we will achieve a satisfactory level of outcome; this will be our prime objective to embrace that position. We are trying to push the envelope to bring our University in International arena of University ranking. Under the guideline of HEQEP we are now performing Self-assessment in program level.

HEQEP under its AIF sub project is funding under the following area:

• Teaching-Learning
  1. Provisional/contractual recruitment of qualified and reputed teachers.
  2. Professional development of academic staff and non-academic personnel in support of teaching activities.
  3. Modernization of academic programs in under graduate and masters level that would enhance innovation in teaching-learning and skills of the graduates in latest scientific knowledge and technologies, meet the demands of labor market and increase the employability of graduates.
  4. Formulation of student-centered curricula designs with emphasis on learning outcomes, competencies, interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary courses including results based programs.
  5. Invitations to post-doctorate fellows, eminent academics and scholars to offer courses and participate in research programs.
  6. Improvement of library services.
  7. Designing and implementing self-assessment exercise at academic program or department level.
• Research/Post-graduate Programs
  1. Modernization and/or improvement of existing M.Phil, Ph.D and Post-Doctoral programs that will consider the development of research capacities of universities.
  2. Initiate joint academic and research programs with national and foreign universities and research organizations.
  3. Formulation of innovative research designs oriented towards increasing productivity in the country's industries and market demands.
  4. Development and/or improvement of the laboratories and workshops with state-of-the-art scientific instruments and equipment with the aim to conduct innovative researches and experiments.
  5. Collaborative initiatives between the academics, researchers and industries for the application of results of innovative researches.
  6. Professional development of academic and support staff for research activities.
• University-wide Innovation
  1. Design and implementation of campus access networks (WANs and LANs).
  2. Improvement of library services through automation, refurbishing of seminar halls and performing arts theater with modern acoustics and lighting system, refurbishing of lecture theater with audio-visual devices, preservation of rare and ancient manuscripts by slate-of-the-art techniques and their reproduction for researchers' use; collection of books, journals and special publications etc.
  3. Equipments for central scientific instrumentation laboratory/ machine workshops and centers.
  4. Invitations to post-doctorate fellows, eminent academics and scholars to offer courses and participate in research programs.
  5. Joint activities/programs with national and foreign universities and research organizations.
